The Necroids

 by Mick McPherson

A wraith-like race of beings, the Necroids are vultures of high-technology.  Raiding high-space, their motivation is not money, but the aquisition of newer, and more advanced machinery. Armed with the Necroid Ray, and gigantic drones, and possessed of high maneuverability, these ships are formidable indeed.

NEW NECROID RULES

(N1.0)  Some Necroid ships employ a variety of drone unique to their race.  They move at Warp 2 (speed 8), take 9 hits to destroy, and do 48 points of damage if they hit.  Each drone rack on a Necroid ship holds only one of them.  They may only fire one per turn.

(N2.0)  Necroid ships have the ability to phase out from space temporarily, rendering them insubstantial to enemy attack.  Any direct fire weapons attempting to hit a target during an impulse which  it has phase shifted will pass harmlessly through.

(N2.1)  Any non-direct fire weapons tracking the Necroid maintain their lock-on.  If they were scheduled to hit on a phase that the Necroid is shifted, the weapon continues to seek as best it can with its turn-mode (the weapon may overshoot and have to turn around)

(N2.2)  The Phase-shifting costs the same per hex as movement.  Thus, on an impulse a ship phases, it pays double the energy for movement.

(N2.3)  A ship may only phase-shift for up to 1/3 of the hexes it moves in a turn.  Thus, a stationary ship cannot phase-shift.

(N2.4)  A Phase-shifted ship may not fire any weapons.  Any seeking weapons it has launched will still function properly.

(N3.0)  The Necroid Ray renders inactive energy-generating sources.  It is only effective on ships which have a shield down facing the Necroid ship (Note: The Necroid does not have to lower shields to employ the Ray)

(N3.1)  The Necroid Ray costs 6 energy points to fire.  When it hits, use the Phaser II chart to determine the amount of warp energy (or impulse and APR if warp is gone or some other warp equivalent if the ship does not employ warp power) that the target ship loses.

(N3.2)  A ship hit by the Necroid Ray can restore energy boxes to power with Damage Control.  Energy is restored at the same rate shield boxes are repaired.

(N4.0)  Necroids are weaker as a race than most other races.  Thus, they get a -1 modifier to their die rolls when their boarding parties try to take over other ships.
