THE FEDERATION

by Gideon Marcus

At long last, here is a separate page, just for the lawful-good element of Star Fleet Battles.

Precursor to the Reliant (featured in Star Trek 2), the Ross class is a more reasonable Destroyer class vessel.

Based on the Ross design, the Rawalpindi sacrifices speed and a phaser for increased sensors and minesweeping ability.

Spacecraft 2000 to 2100 AD

The Martian Queen: Taken from this beautiful book, the Martian Queen is an old-style Terran spaceliner.  Use it as a low tech transport or for the sub-light game.

Ships of the Spaceflight Chronology

Right after the first motion picture, a book was published with extraordinary illustrations by Rick Sternbach.  It outlined the history of spaceflight up to the time of the Constitution II class vessel.  Obviously, the book was rendered obsolete by the Next Gen chronology (and what fascinating attempt at tearing asunder the consistency of our universe that tome was), but I think this book far more accurately represents the Star Trek universe's history.  You probably can't pick it up anymore, and my copy is perhaps worth a lot.

Did I mention there are lots of really cool ships in it?  Over the next several months, I shall translate them from the book to my site.  Some will be around in the Star Trek era (c. 156) while most will be usuable in the sublight game.  Enjoy!

[Image]The Cabot class Trawler

This ungainly vessel was a mobile refinery.  Moving at a maximum speed of warp 4, this vessel carried and refined ore across the space lanes all the way up to year 170.  You can treat refinery boxes as cargo hits.

The Space Shuttle (represent with a shuttle).

In our universe, this expensive boondoggle has proven to be the slow strangulation of our space program rather than the hopeful next step envisioned in the Chronology.  However, in the noble Star Fleet Battles universe, the Shuttle managed over 500 inexpensive flights in 13 years of operation.  Included for posterity and for fun is the SSD for our noble craft.

DY-100/DY-500/Uprated DY-500

The first interplantetary spacecraft plied the space lanes for over 50 years.  One infamous example escaped the solar system with Khan Noonian Singh and his band of genetic supermen on board.  Any journey into the Terran system in the first half the the 21st century will certainly encounter these proud vessels.

Note: The DY series has no weaponry (or if they did, it was to primitive to even matter).  Hence, they have no scanners or sensors.  However, they do have labs which they can use in a limited fashion to detect approaching craft.

The SSDs for the Space Shuttle and the DY series are included on the same sheet HERE

MARSHALL CLASS DESTROYER

Hero of the Romulan Wars, this nimble ship was the first to use shielding.  Dispensing with heavy armor and utilizing other high technology techniques, the Marshall class packed more weaponry than most light cruisers (analogous to the current situation with Destroyers and Light Cruisers).  Recall that in this timeline, warp drive was invented much earlier (a few years before Year 0).  Thus my Romulan War ships may not be compatible with the  game's.  C'est la vie.

More to come!!!!
