Every year, the gigantic radio telescope at Arecibo, Puerto Rico collects
Terabyte upon Terabyte of data. It scans the skies looking for unusual radio
sources which might betray the existence of some hitherto unknown stellar
phenomenon or even the existence of an extrasolar civilization. SETI@home is the program which allows your personal computer to be part of this project. The data gathered at Arecibo are far too numerous and complex to be crunched by even a supercomputer. Instead, little chunks of information are sent to personal computers throughout the world and worked on simultaneously. The result is the biggest computing project ever initiated by the human race. The Otaku Space Force is proud to report the completion of over 5000 work units by Crew and affiliates. But there's much more work to be done. If you've got a reasonably fast computer (less than three years old) and a regular connection to the internet, then consider signing on with us.
