The SDF-O's keel was laid down in 1994 in the mighty dockyard of Vista, California.  Originally a conventional battlecruiser, a refit was ordered in early 1999.  The guns were removed, the anime viewing lounge made several times larger, and the fan construction equipment installed.  Captain Gideon Marcus, a veteran of many an Otaku-related skirmish was the first to crack a bottle of champagne upon the Suna-bedecked hull.  A hardy crew of seasoned spacers soon reported for duty and the SDF-O can be seen at Conventions on the Atlantic and Pacific Coasts and even in the Homeland.  In addition, General Quarters is called every Wednesday night to ensure the crew is ready to act in any exigency be it a rogue virtual idol, a magical girl with a pure heart, or a letter from the End of the World.
